Bill Turner and Blue Smoke Band

Bill Turner & Blue Smoke

Bill Turner started playing guitar when he was 8 years old, and in his early teens discovered Bluegrass and eventually learned to play 5 string banjo, fiddle, mandolin and Dobro, which soon led to him being hired to play on a number of recording sessions in NYC and NJ on other artists' albums.

In 1974 Bill was hired to play lead guitar with Bill Haley & His Comets, a position he held for two and a half years and which took him to Europe twice, as well as Canada and Brazil.

About the Band

During the decade of the 80s Bill Turner appeared on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry six times during the annual Disc Jockey Convention Week celebrations on concerts hosted by Bill Monroe and the Osborne Brothers. In 1972 Bill started his long time band "Blue Smoke" which he still fronts today, and with whom he recorded the music soundtrack for MTV's four 30 second commercials promoting their new cable network, the M-2 Satellite Network in 1996, plus ten years in Atlantic City where they were the top drawing band at Bally's Wild Wild West. Recently, Bill Turner & Blue Smoke appeared at an international music festival in Wolfsburg Germany, where they were the only American band on the festival.  Bill has also played 5 string banjo on the 2007 Sesame Street DVD "Kids Favorite Country Songs" and in 2018 had a featured singing role in the movie "Pickings", directed by Usher Morgan.
